Most sunscreens have an expiration date of three years, though some may not contain an actual date on the bottle.  A chemical sunscreen should not be used past its expiration date, while physical sun blocks are formulated with no chemicals, so they do not have an expiration date.  When sweating or swimming, you should apply one ounce of sunscreen (shot glass size) to cover exposed areas, and re-apply every 30 minutes to an hour. If you apply sunscreen correctly and frequent the outdoors, one bottle of sunscreen should not last an entire year.

Free radicals are one of the main causes of the visible aging process. They are in the food we eat and the air we breathe.  Scientists have proven by applying a topical antioxidant daily to your skin, it can help regenerate cells and protect you from free radicals.  These topical antioxidants are prevalent in the skincare world now more than ever and include vitamin C, vitamin E, resveratrol, retinol (vitamin A) and green tea.  Using a SkinCeuticals, NEOCUTIS or Obagi vitamin C topical serum every day, will not only prevent the extrinsic aging process from free radicals, but can make your sunscreen up to 8 times more effective.

This is a trend our dermatologists are rejoicing over!  The NO TAN trend not only keeps a youthful look, but helps prevent skin cancer.  Wearing a broad spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher daily decreases your risk of melanoma by 50%. One person dies of melanoma every hour, and tanning beds increase your risk of melanoma by 75%.  If you are spending a day at the beach, be sure to reapply your sunscreen every 45 minutes, wear a broad-brimmed hat and stay shaded as much as possible. Join celebrities Zooey Deschanel, Nicole Kidman and Scarlett Johansson in the NO TAN trend for 2015!

What does my makeup have to do with my skincare?

Your makeup is an extension of your skincare. Being aware of all ingredients is very important since some ingredients can undo the hard work you have put into your skincare and possibly damage your health. Talc, methyl, butyl, propyl and ethyl paraben are ingredients of concern.  Just because makeup says it is strictly mineral based, does not mean it doesn’t include these ingredients. These can be found in eye shadows, face powders and long wearing makeup products.

glo•minerals is a 100% mineral based foundation and is committed to using superior pharmaceutical-grade vitamins and minerals. glo products offer many benefits including antioxidants, UVA & UVB sun protection and it’s anti-inflammatory. In addition, this company is cruelty-free and does not test any products on animals. This makeup is highly recommended by our Board Certified Dermatologists and Licensed Estheticians
